The elusive utility grade

Internet connections aren't there yet

When you flick a light switch, you can expect light most of the time. Oh sure, rural areas (like where I live) have their power outages, but those are few and far between.

Same for gas, it's there when you need it.

These days, the wired telephone is even better still. I can't think of one time during my life time that I picked up a phone with a direct connection and it didn't work.

Even the cable company is pretty good.

So when will a rural internet connection reach utility grade?

It's pretty bad when your ISP is the local cable company and you can get the Phoenix channels but you can't check your email.
