Search boxes

This one ended up being a hack too.

First I was experimenting with Google search. That created a problem, Google likes to track ALL your information ALL the time. I didn't want to link my on site "Search this site" with my YouTube account or my Google Voice account.

But it turned out that Joe Workman had a stack called DuckDuckSearch that worked with DuckDuckGo. And if you don't know why that's a good idea, just check out their privacy policy.

It turned out that even with Joe Workman's own Houdini, I couldn't get the search bar into the sidebar where I wanted it. And since it would open to a new search page, the sidebar location worked better.

So I opened up the search page. I selected "Show Page Source" in Safari. I scolled down to find the stack code. I copy pasted it in a new document. Then I copy-pasted that into the sidebar.

Only it screwed up my page. On the very next line were the four close div codes. That was easy enough to fix.

This works after a fashion, but there is no doubt it is a hack. It's not perfect, the search box is not centered, and I have not done an SEO on the sites yet.

There is a better long term search solution called RapidSearchPro. But it requires at least PHP 5.6, preferably PHP 7. MacHighway doesn't have that yet.
